Mission Detail

The church has been in the Monterrey Area since 1922 but as you can imagine if you know the history of Mexico, the first 20 years were rocky. Religious persecutions of all kinds took place beginning in the late 1920′s. It wasn’t until the 1950′s that the first district was organized here. Our actual mission, the Mexico Monterrey West Mission was formed in 1994.

Our mission consists of twelve stakes and two districts. In Monterrey, which is in the state of Nuevo Leon, the mission includes six stakes. The rest of the stakes are in the state of Coahuila. Three stakes are in Saltillo. Two stakes are in Monclova. Piedras Negras has one stake with the two districts about an hour away from it to the south Nueva Rosita and to the northwest Acuña. Both Acuña and Piedras Negras are border towns with Texas.

Well this is it

Well this is it....

I cant believe that the time has come. This has been the most amazing
experience of my life but surely not my last. I know that this is not
the end of my journey. I still have much to learn and much to do. I am
so grateful that I have had the opportunity to be a representative of
Jesus Christ over these past two years. They have been full of moments
that I will never forget. People I have met, lessons learned both the
easy and hard way. I am so grateful for all of it. I am positive that
there could have not been any other place on the earth that I should
have spent these last two years of my life. They have changed me
forever. I never plan on going back to the way that things were. The
person that the lord has molded me to become is here to stay.

During my time here I have learned how to recognize and follow the
guidance of the Holy Spirit. I know that God literally guides us when
we are in need and willing to listen and follow his councils. Many
times we don't understand why we were directed in the path that God
has shown until we follow with faith. Looking back on it the most
spiritual moments of my life have been a result of following his
guide, even when I didn't exactly understand why.

I know that God blesses those who serve him with love. You can feel it
in the people who really understand the gospel and serve with their
hearts (Moroni 7:5-9).  I know that the only true and lasting joy that
we can experience in this life is through serving God with all our
heart, might, mind, and strength.

I know that my time as a missionary has not ended and never will. I
know there are still many people that are searching for the peace and
love that God offers us as we reach out to him.

I know that God lives and loves us. He sent his son to bring us back
to him. I have no doubt in my mind that Joseph Smith is a true prophet
of God. He saw God and Jesus Christ and was commanded by them to
reestablish his church here on earth. And because of that we all may
live with God again with our families.

I am so grateful for all of the support that you all have given me!
Your letters have helped lift me up when things were hard. You are all
welcome to my homecoming this Sunday the 12th of July at 11. The
address is 12300 south 650 east! i hope to see you all there! Please
confirm that you are going to go with my mom 9706831422.

See you all on Wednesday!

Closing Interview with Mission President

Hi everyone!

This week has been amazing! I have been learning so much over these
past few weeks. I have seen miracles and received so many answers to
my prayers. I know that the lord has been blessing my companion and I
so much. I am grateful for all of your prayers and emails that you
have sent me.

This week has been really exciting. Well first off our mission
president leaves the 30th of June but he still was able to do my exit
interview which was pretty different ha ha. I never though this moment
would come. We talked a lot about goals to put for after the mission
and what I need to do to continue progressing thought my life. I am so
grateful for all of his councils and for all that he has done to help
me grow over these last two years.

During this last week we met someone that went to church last year for
over three months but never was baptized and we have been helping him
gain a testimony of the gospel to be baptized the 5th of July. As well
we have been teaching Facundo he has been progressing very well.
Actually he has been to church over 10 times but we could never find
him in his house. We tried to find him like 40 times in the past few
weeks but nothing. We fasted and well we have found him in his house
ever since! We are teaching him and as well as Pablo he is preparing
to be baptized the 5th of July!

I am so grateful for this time that God has given me to learn and
progress. I know I still have much to learn and these next few weeks I
will be doing my best to learn all that I can!

Zone Conference

Hello everyone!

These past few weeks have been flying by! I love this work so much!

We have been working hard to find families and we have found a few
that are really promising. Its amazing how the lord can guide us to
those who are really in need and willing to follow what he commands.
rarely it happens in the first person that you talk to. Its almost
always when you are just about to give in but you decide to push that
one extra step.

This week we had our last Zone conference and it was amazing. We
started with a temple session. I felt so amazing in the temple. I felt
the answer to questions and doubts that I had. I wish I could explain
in words what I felt but you just cant. During the zone conference we
talked about diligence and hard work. And then because our mission
President leaves in two weeks he gave his last words and talked about
his life and how the Gospel and his mission had shaped his life. He
truly is one of my heroes.

Well this week we will be working hard in helping the new families
that we met and trying to find some new ones!

Have a great week!

Baptism of Celestino

Hey everyone!

This week has been full of miracles but soooo stressful!

The baptism of Celestino was so amazing. His baptism was really a
miracle. From the first day the we met him I knew there was something
special. Well it wasnt too hard to guess he came up to us and told us
that he wanted to go to our church and be baptized. The example of his
fiance really had a big impact on him. It has made me think a lot
about the importance and the power our example has in the lives of
others. Without her example I dont know if we would have ever met
Celestino. He probably would never would have gone up and talked to
us. I hope that I always be like her and share the Gospel with
everyone that I meet. Actually for his baptism his daughter was able
to come with us and she came to church this Sunday as well. Now the
example of Celestino is helping his family follow in his footsteps!

Everything is going good with  Milagros, Edwardo, Mirna and Ricardo.
They will get married this Thursday at 11:30 and 12:30! I am so happy
for them and the choices that they are making. This Sunday after the
services they will be baptized! its amazing how the gospel has had
such an impact on their lives and you can honestly feel the difference
in their home now from when we first met them.

I am so grateful for the gospel of Jesus Christ that is a guide for us
in everything that we do.

Have an amazing week and Happy Mothers Day!

Sacred Time

This week in Lincoln has been great!

We have been working a lot with Celestino who will be baptized this
Saturday. This Sunday his member girlfriend from Georgia came to visit
him and she has been helping him a lot to understand and live the
gospel. He cant read very well so she has been reading to him a lot.
She has been a member for almost 30 years. He is really excited and so
are we!

With Milagros Edwardo Mirna and Ricardo we are going to the Judges
office this Wednesday and we are going to turn in the paperwork and
then put an official date on the wedding! They are progressing really
well and I am so grateful to be able to help them.

Over these past months my testimony has been strengthened so much in
trusting in the lord and his timing. I know that we are always on his
mind and that he wants so much to give us all that we want when we
want it but he knows what we need and when we need it. I know that he

will never do anything to hurt us only to strengthen us if we support
our trials with faith. i am so grateful to be a missionary and that I
have been able to serve him for the last 21 months of my life and I
plan on giving him my all these last few months I have left. I know
the time I have here is sacred and I cant afford to waist one minute.

Have an amazing week!

On Fire

Hey!

Okay so this week has been pretty amazing. We have been working hard
and seeing so many miracles. But first off we are on fire here!
Yesterday it was a solid 100 degrees outside and we had to walk around
in our suits! That wasnt too fun ha ha!

Celestino is doing great and is way excited for his baptism the 9th of
May. His girlfriend who is a member will be coming down the 3rd of
May. we are excited to get to know her! He tells everyone in the ward
what day he is going to be baptized and invites them all. It should be
a really special moment!

Then there is Mina and her husband Ricardo and Milagros and her
husband Edwardo. They are both doing really well! We are excited for
them. This week we were able to put a date for their weddings.
Milagros the 6th os may and Mirna the 15th. The four of them have a
baptismal date for the 17th. I hope all goes according to plan! I know
how getting people married can be quite the struggle!

the ward has been doing good. This Sunday I had to talk and what do ya
know I still get super nervous! But this ward is crazy big this Sunday
over 220 people came.

I hope veryone is doing well up north!

Last Area - Family of Six

Hey everyone!

This week has been pretty amazing!
First off they changed me to Lincoln a huge ward where about 180
people come to church every week. Quite the differnce between
montemorelos and here! My companion is Elder Licea he is way cool and
super funny! We are working hard and having a great time. As for
Ricrdo Elder Jimenez told me he is getting baptized this next Sunday!

We have met some amazing people during this week.

Celestino is someone who actually contacted us outside of the house
of some new members. He went to church two Sundays ago in Guadalupe
with his member girlfriend who lives in Georgia. He is really excited
and told us that he wants to learn what his girlfriend knows. We put a
date with him for the 9th of May so that his girlfriend will be able
to attend. They have plans to be married as well.

Then we are teaching a big family of six. Only three were able to
attend but we are confident the other three will follow. They are all
really excited. We put a date with them for the 17th on May and they
are willing to do what it takes and have been working on getting
married. We will be helping them get everything ready because I know
how long it can take ha ha! Their names are Mirna and Ricardo and the
mom of Mirna Maria de Jesus who came to church. They are really open
to the gospel because the husband of Maria almost died a few weeks ago
in the hospital and they promised God that they were going to do
things right form now on and prayed to know what they should do and
that same day we knocked on the door!

Many miricles happened this week and I am so convinced that this is
the work of the lord!

Have an amazing week!

Ricardo Ricardo

Hey Everyone,
So this week was pretty exciting. Well we have been teaching a dad and his
son both named Ricardo for a few weeks and this Sunday they cam with us to
Church and loved it. One of the coolest things was that Ricardo jr who is 15
years old came out with us to visit people. It was an amazing experience for
him but also for us. He loved teaching people what he had learned and felt
over the past few weeks that we had been visiting them. He helped out a lot
of older members remember their own conversion. He has called us everyday
since asking when he can come out with us again. That made me feel so good
and reminded me of how I felt when I first started the mission. He kept on
telling people he is so excited to get baptized in three weeks and then in
three years he will leave on a mission as well.

Well today are changes again and I think they are going to send me to a new
part. I am pretty excited to get to know other people.

I heard about Tom. I wish so much that I could be there for you guys. I love
you all so much he was an amazing uncle. This is why we have the gospel
after all to be able to live as a family forever. Ill be praying for you
all.

Hands of Heaven on Earth

Hey!

So this week has been really good! We have been working hard and seeing miracles. This week we started talking to a family that we had stopped teaching and they were praying that we would be able to come back and talk with them. The dad Ricardo and his son Ricardo... jr are the most interested. They told us that they feel a difference when we come and visit them and when  we dont. We have been working a lot with them and Ricardo jr came to church with us this Sunday. He reminds me a lot of Bridger being 15 and huge as well. They have been reading the book of mormon and we are helping them to get an answer that these things are true.

One of the most amazing things to hear as a missionary is when someone tells you that you are a way that God answered their prayers. i know that God answers our prayers though his children. We can be the hands of heaven here on earth. We just need to be worthy of and always listening to the promptings of the lord though the holy ghost.

Have a great week everyone and go serve!
Elder Ahlmer

PS    Oh and this week I was finally able to try bull blood oranges! They are SO good! They taste really sweet and really do look like they have blood in them ha ha! Also I tried cheese ice cream.... Surprisingly that was really good too! Gotta love trying new things!

Bike Issues

This week my bike pedal broke in half and well with the bike chain my comp dragged me to th house for like 25 minutes!

Don Pablo Death

Oh and I forgot to tell you guys.

Remember Don Pablo. Well a few weeks ago he got really really sick and when the missionaries went there one of his last wishes was to see me. President Swapp gave me permission to go and see him. Friday I went and saw him and talked with him. It was an amazing experience. He kept on thanking me and told me how excited he was to be able to preach in the next life. I am so grateful to be able to do what I am doing. Tuesday I got a call that he had passed away. I will miss him so much but I can not wait to see him again. I love this work.

Mom Ivonne

Hey!

So this week was pretty great! We are seeing a lot of progress in the people we have been visiting! We are teaching a family that are soo cool! The mom Ivonne was part of another church for over 30 years and was a big leader in the church but always felt like something wasnt right. She saw some stuff that was happening and left the church saying that she wouldnt ever go to another church or listen to missionaries. She was just going to study and live the gospel in her own home. We found her in front of her house and when we started talking with her we must have said something that really got to her because she let us pass and we started talking with her and her family. We taught the Restoration and she loved it. The understood really well and with all their knowledge they could tell that these things were true. When we teach I feel the spirit soo strongly Its amazing. I love going to their house. They read the book of Mormon so much like the hermana as of saturday was already in 2nd nephi. I know that the lord prepares people to join his church and that I am here for those people. When we teach them they start telling us how they had always questioned themselves about that. They came to church sunday and well as for right now we are so excited to have the chance to know them and teach them!

Family Prepared

Hey everyone!

So this week was pretty amazing! First off the weather has been pretty weird like last year. On day super hot like today and one day freezing and raining. With all the changes a lot of people are getting sick. Ive been a little sick this last week but nothing too crazy. Its hard to know what cloths wo put on with weather being so weird!

This week we found an amazing family. Im positive that the Lord has been preparing them to receive the gospel of Jesus Christ. The mom Ivon was a really strong member of another church for over 30 years teaching classes and everything but started to realize that things were wrong within the church. She told us that she always felt like there was something missing. When  we taught her and her family the Restoration the loved it . It answered many of their doubts that they had been asking themselves for years. They had always thought that it wasnt right the Jesus only was in the east and never went to visit everyone else. Honestly this family has strengthened my testimony so much that the lord is always getting people ready to receive the gospel we invited them to baptism and they all accepted and we are working with them to reach their goal.

Have an amazing week!

Two New Comps

This week has been so awesome. Well first off there were changes and I now have two companions I am once again with Elder Quiej and also with Elder Jimenez! They are both a lot of fun and I am having a great time working with them. Its so much easier working with them. I learned so much about myself this last change but now I am grateful for the chance to work with some new people. We have been having a lot of success. This week Gilberto Izzet and Betty came to church with us and they all loved the services and told us how excited they were to come to church this next Sunday. We also have been able to see some more progress in the branch as far as people working together and well having fun together! This Friday we have a BBQ with the Elders quorum and well a whole lot of other stuff! Im so excited for this change! Oh and its been warm this week and it hasnt rained so we aren't super dirty all the time!

Have an awesome week!

Comp is my Comp

Hey!

So this week has been good! It was a lot warmer actually I got sunburned... shocker right. Its a lot better in the heat because people actually get out of bed and leave their house when its warm outside. So its a lot easier to find new people to teach. My comp well is my comp but things are alright at least today are changes so we probably wont be companions anymore. I have learned a lot about myself this change and I feel like I have grown. This change has really showed me the real reason why I am here and for that I am grateful. I hope everything is going good up north! From what I have heard things are going great!

Struggles

Hey everyone!

How has your week been? I hope everything is going well!

So this week has been pretty interesting. The last few weeks have been a pretty big struggle but lately I have found a lot of help through reading the book of Mormon. Last Monday our mission president gave us a challenge to read the book of Mormon in 45 days and be writing down what you have learned in a journal. I have never had a scripture journal before so I started this last week. I cant tell you how much the lord has helped me with the problems that I have been facing through reading. I have had much more patience  and felt so much more the spirit in my life. I know that the book of Mormon is the word of God and that we can only truly understand who God is by reading his scriptures. I hope you all have been reading the book of Mormon and if now well now is a great time to start!

Have and awesome week!
